Your opinion on remote training collars for dogs?
What do you all think? If you have tried and tried to train the dog: not to dig, not to run off, not to tear up the garbage, and he does not listen (a very hard-headed dog)
Do you think in this case, it is ok to use one?
The dog is new to our family, but is wonderful with our 2 yr old daughter, so I would really like to keep him…And we also have another dog who DOES listen to us..we have never had this problem with him..
An E collar is a training tool, just like a choker or a prong or a flat collar, period, end of conversation..
I have used them for over 20 years with never a problem or any negative issues with any dog. Having said that, I have also trained with one before I put it on a dog and started stimming him. You need to condition the dog by letting him wear it for a week to 10 days on and off all day so he thinks that it is just another collar.
You need to find his level of comfort BEFORE you stim him and you need to develop perfect timing with it.
Some people here have expressed opinions that have no merit and shows their ignorance as far as training tools, please, do not listen. An E collar is NOT an inhumane device and it does work on most if not all problems.
Garbage can digging, running away, not listen, etc, all these problems can be corrected by an E collar.
A correctly used E collar can INCREASE confidence in a stable or even a slightly fearful dog, I know, I have seen it.
Positive ONLY training has also ruined more dogs than I care to remember, I have seen that too.
